Sesotho Literary Museum to host Dialogue with Communities 4

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, through its Sesotho Literary Museum (SLM), will host its fourth “Sesotho Literature Museum Dialogue with
Communities".

The first three dialogues were successfully hosted with valuable feedback received from communities on various topics. Dialogue 4 will be a continuation of the programme to obtain feedback from the communities on issues relating to Sesotho Literature and the development thereof.

Previous “SLM Dialogues” sessions were hosted as follows:

  • Dialogue 1: “Seabo sa Marena Pusong le Tataisong ya Setjhaba” (31/05/2013)
  • Dialogue 2: “Dikamano tsa phedisano pakeng tsa MaAfrika Borwa le baahi ba dinaha tse ding tsa Afrika” (16/08/2013)
  • Dialogue 3: “Katleho/Diphepetso phetolelong ya dibuka tsa Sesotho panyapanyeng (Difilimi le Theleveshene)” (28/05/2014)

In the previous dialogues, as with Dialogue 4, the museum provided the platform for a direct discourse with the literary and linguistic communities. The theme for SLM Dialogue 4 will be “Sustainability of Literature in the Free State (Boikemelo le kgolo ya dingolwa Freistata)”.

The aim behind these dialogues is two-fold:

  • To provide a platform for knowledge exchange between literary experts and the literary communities (Writers’ Organizations and individual writers) and between the linguistic experts and the language users.
  • To create an opportunity for writers to consolidate their manuscripts from aninformed, researched position, and position the museum back in people’sminds, thereby encouraging regular visits.

Furthermore, Sesotho Literary Museum, with these interventions, seek to enhance the achievement of its major priorities, which will in turn, ensure achievement of the target outcomes as enshrined in our Annual Performance Plan (APP):

  • Revive outreach programmes and research (Ho tsosolosa mananeo a phihlello ya setjhaba le diphuputso)
  • Re-establish and strengthen a relationship between writers and the museum (Ho tsosa-botjha le ho matlafatsa dikamano pakeng tsa bangodi le museamo)
  • Management and increase of current and new collections (Tsamaiso le keketso ya dipokello tse teng le tse ntjha)
  • Hold regular literary exhibitions for the museum (Ho ba le dipepeso tsa dingolwa kgafetsa.
