A R2.4 million Utrecht Museum Education centre and exhibition centre to benefit communities around Utrecht

The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Arts and Culture Department will officially open the recently upgraded Utrecht Museum to mark International Museums Day next week. Officials will also host an exhibition at the institution to celebrate the day.

The facelift, which includes the construction of an educational centre and additional exhibition space, costs R2.4 million and is part of ongoing efforts to preserve KZN’s rich history and promote cultural tourism. More than 300 school children from communities who will benefit from having the institution in the area will be bussed in on the day to be part of the educational experience.

Over 30 000 museums around the world are expected to partake in events around the 18th of May 2014. The event, which is running for the 36th year, is themed “Museum collections make connections”. It is a reminder that museums are living institutions that help create bonds between visitors, generations and cultures around the world.
