Public Works launches Disability Advisory Council and 16 Days of Activism march, 2 Dec

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is launching the Disability Advisory Council that aims to provide strategic leadership and advice to the department on a number of issues relating to disability.

The council was formed after Minister Thulas Nxesi had a consultative session with the disability sector in 2013. Taking seriously the slogan ‘Nothing about us without us’ the DPW disability advisory council comprises of one member from participating disability organisations including the following:

  • Quad Para Association of South Africa (QASA)
  • National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA)
  • Deaf Federation of South Africa (DeafSA)
  • Autism South Africa
  • South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB)
  • Disabled People South Africa (DPSA)
  • Epilepsy South Africa
  • South African Federation of Mental Health (SAFMH).
  • Blind South Africa
  • Albinism Society South Africa
  • Disability Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI)
  • South African National Deaf Association (SANDA)
  • Entrepreneurs with Disability Forum
  • Women’s Achievement Network for Disability (WAND).

Event 1: Launch of Disability Advisory Council

Event 2: 16 Days of Activism: Men’s March against Women and Children Abuse

As the country commemorates the 16 days of activism campaign against women and children abuse, the Department of Public Works, led by the Department’s men will lead a march in the streets of Pretoria CBD.  The march is aimed at highlighting the role men have in eliminating the scourge.

The march will end at the Melodi yaTshwane Church where there will be a seminar involving men from different organisations. The seminar aims to encourage men to be in the forefront against women and children abuse.

Date: Tuesday, 2 December 2014

Route/Venue: Men’s March starts from Church Square, then proceed to President street, proceed and join Paul Kruger until Bosman Station and back to the Church for seminar (opposite Public Works CGO building on corner Madiba and Bosman.
