Key stakeholders meet to chart roadmap towards professionalisation of the public service
The Public Service Commission (PSC) in partnership with the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), the National School of Government (NSG) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will host a two day Retreat on the National Framework Towards the Professionalisation of the Public Sector on 13-14 July 2023 in Krugersdorp. The purpose of the retreat is to:
a.bring key stakeholders together to collectively unpack the most effective means to implement the various proposals and recommendations to the Professionalisation Framework;
b. contextualise the Professionalisation Framework in respect of paradigm change, public sector reform, character formation and capability;
c. identify priorities for short, medium and long term implementation;
d. strategise to ensure political leadership commitment to action on one or two priorities;
e. identify change management processes, capacity challenges for implementation and incentives for behavioural change;
f. consider the establishment of a peer working group and steering committee to oversee the effective implementation of the Professionalisation Framework; and
g. develop a comprehensive and sequential action plan.
The Minster for Public Service and Administration, Ms Noxolo Kiviet will deliver the keynote address.
Other participants will include amongst others, the Principal of the National School of Government, Mr Busani Ngcaweni, Commissioner of the National Planning Commission, Professor Mashupye Maserumule, Chairperson of the PSC, Professor Somadoda Fikeni, Dr Ayodele Odusola, Resident Representative for the United Nations Development Programme in South Africa. Director-General of the Department of Public Service and Administration, Ms Yoliswa Makhasi and Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Ms Maropene Ramokgopa,
The event will also have a panel discussion on the central challenges in the South African Public Sector and how the Professionalisation Framework can address these challenges.
