Public Protector Thuli Madonsela addresses UN Global Compact gathering in New York, 10 Dec

Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela is in New York, United States of America, where she will deliver a keynote address at a United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) gathering, which will mark the 10th anniversary the UNGC's 10th Principle against corruption.

The UNGC is an initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations with universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. Its 10th Principle on corruption calls on business to work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

According to the UNGC, the event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the 10 years since the launch of the 10th Principle and will look forward by sharing emerging and innovative anti-corruption measures.

More than 200 participants, primarily from business and investment, will discuss topics including: anti-corruption efforts in emerging markets, the role of investors in incentivizing good governance, corruption in the banking sector and the importance of collective action.

The Public Protector Madonsela's speech will focus on "The role of Governments in incentivising anti-corruption".
