Public Protector to Commemorate 16 Days of Activism against Abuse to Women and Children in the Free State

Public Protector Adv. Thuli Madonsela will commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Campaign against Abuse to Women and Children in the Free State on 26 November 2013. This year’s campaign will be held under the theme: “Kwanele; community united in preventing violence against women and girls.”

The 16 Days of Activism Campaign is linked to the first key strategic objective of the Public Protector, that is to be accessible to and trusted by all persons and communities. Through the campaign the Public Protector aims to raise public awareness about the existence, mandate and services of the institution.

The Public Protector has previously investigated alleged improper conduct on the part of the justice value chain in relation to the handling of cases involving abuse.

The Public Protector’s association with the campaign seeks to bolster the constitutional values of human dignity, equality and the advancement of human rights and freedom.

She will be accompanied by investigators from her office to take complaints. People with complaints are urged to bring supporting documents to assist in the investigations.
