Provincial government holds Cabinet Operation Sukuma Sakhe in uMshwathi Municipality

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Mr Senzo Mchunu and all the MECs in partnership with the uMgungundlovu District Mayors, will on Wednesday, 27 November hold the Cabinet Operation Sukuma Sakhe event in uMshwathi Municipality to accelerate service delivery and stamp out social ills in uMgungundlovu District.

In her capacity as uMgungundlovu District Political Champion, MEC for Finance, Ms Ina Cronjé, will host the event that will be led by Premier. The provincial government is expected to address service delivery issues in line with government's target to eradicate poverty, unemployment and inequality.

The district has been in the spotlight recently when a number of social ills cases, that include drug abuse, rape, murder, were reported. MEC Cronjé declared war on social ills in the district earlier in the year in a quest to find lasting solution to the challenges.

The Premier, MECs, mayors and community members will stage a walk against gender-based violence and substance abuse to sensitise residents in the area of the effects of abuse against women and children.

Speaking ahead of the event, MEC Cronjé said that, “Government has structured programs which need to get as deep as to the level of the people we are serving. This is at ward level, translating to all households in the district. We humbly accept that we cannot achieve this alone, but needs community's hands in building this nation together”.

The provincial government will also launch the 16-days of activism against women and children abuse at this event.
