President Jacob Zuma to undertake Presidential Imbizo to Pietermaritzburg and surroundings

President Jacob Zuma, accompanied by various Cabinet Ministers, the Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Deputy Ministers, provincial MECs, Mayors and Councillors will meet the people of Pietermaritzburg and surroundings during the Presidential Imbizo programme on 30 September 2014.

The Presidential Imbizo will take place at the Durban University of Technology’s Indumiso Campus in Imbali township, Stage 1. The Imbizo will begin with a service delivery expo where various government departments will showcase services and provide on-site assistance to the public.

The Presidential Imbizo will also include door to door visits by the political leadership to various households for a direct interaction with residents.

The Imbizo will be held under the theme “Together we move South Africa forward” promoting joint action with communities in building the country under the umbrella of the Constitution, the National Development Plan and the Freedom Charter which turns 60 years old next year.

President Zuma and the political leadership will use the Imbizo to respond specifically to service delivery challenges faced by the community in the Umgungundlovu and Umsunduzi municipalities.

The Imbizo also forms part of government’s programme of strengthening municipalities as part of the campaign to get the basics of local government right.

Time: 9h00 beginning with the service delivery Expo and later the community meeting with the President.
