President Cyril Ramaphosa chairs NEDLAC virtual meeting during Coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown, 17 Apr

President Cyril Ramaphosa will this morning chair a virtual meeting of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) from his private residence in Johannesburg.

This meeting will focus on mitigating the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant lockdown on South Africa. 

In this regard, the meeting is expected to receive inputs from the social partners made up of government, labour, community and business.

The President has been in continuous consultation with various sectors of society on management of the national state of disaster since government first acted to limit the outbreak in the country.

The country entered a nationwide lockdown for 21-days with effect from midnight on Thursday 26 March 2020 and on 09 April 2020, President Ramaphosa announced that the National Coronavirus Command Council had decided to extend the lockdown by a further two weeks until the end of April.
