President Cyril Ramaphosa addresses 30th anniversary of release of Nelson Mandela, 11 Feb

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver an address during the commemoration on Tuesday, 11 February 2020 of the 30th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela from prison.

Hosted by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the anniversary will be observed at the Cape Town City Hall under the theme “From Freedom to Liberation”.

Former President Nelson Mandela’s release from prison ushered in an era of change in South Africa’s political dispensation.

The commemoration seeks to refresh in the minds of all South Africans, the central and sustained contribution made by Madiba and his generation towards the liberation of South Africa from apartheid colonial rule.

The commemoration also aims to foster critical thought and reflection and inspire greater social cohesion by reminding South Africans and the world that South Africa overcame apartheid as a nation and the nation is therefore capable of overcoming its current struggles.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver a public address at 15h20 on the Cape Town City Hall balcony where Nelson Mandela delivered his first public address within hours of his release.
