Premier Zille and Minister Botha to launch Walk4Health lifestyle wellness initiative

Tomorrow, Tuesday 1 October, Premier Helen Zille and Western Cape Health Minister Theuns Botha will launch the Western Cape Government’s Walk4Health initiative which aims to promote a culture of wellness through encouraging the adoption of active lifestyles.

Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for a number of conditions such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and other non-communicable diseases. Promoting healthy lifestyles is a priority for the Western Cape Government to address this challenge in order to reduce the burden of disease in the province.

Premier Zille will then participate in a community walk in the afternoon with the Hanover Park branch of the Community Health Intervention Programmes (CHIPs) run by the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA).

Media are invited to attend both the launch and community walk. There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
