Premier Thandi Modise responds to plight of vulnerable groups

A job creation and farming empowerment project to provide people living with HIV/Aids with access to healthy and nutritious vegetables is to be launched by North West Premier Thandi Modise at a 2 hectares farm outside Mahikeng on Friday.

The provincial initiative to be rolled out to other districts is the brainchild of Premier Modise aimed at assisting beneficiaries to establish a viable market level of conventional vegetable production and selling them to local and other markets.

The launch of the project to create permanent and seasonal jobs for the local community is a build-up event to the National World Aids Day event to be hosted by the province at the Stadium in Potchefstroom on Saturday.

As part of the programme for the launch, the Premier will also distribute sporting attire and equipment to identified schools from disadvantages communities around Mahikeng.

In the afternoon Modise will also visit Mahikeng Provincial Hospital Paediatric Ward to assess renovations and the impact of interventions done through the Ruth Thandi Modise Health Development Trust.

Modise who had adopted the ward after she was touched by the conditions in the ward and the plight of children from destitute family backgrounds during the 2011 Mandela Week will also use the opportunity to distribute Christmas lunch packs to children who are admitted at the ward.

Members of the media are invited to cover the launch and visit to Mahikeng Provincial Hospital Paediatric Ward. For accreditation kindly RSVP with Pat Dooms at pdooms@nwpg.gov.za or 084 831 4072 by 14h00 Wednesday 28 November 2012.
