Premier Senzo Mchunu meets families of victims of Nigeria church disaster, 17 Nov

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu, MEC for Social Development Weziwe Thusi and other members of the provincial executive council will tomorrow meet with the families of the victims of Nigeria church disaster. The families will be returning from a memorial service that took place in Gauteng province.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Dube City near King Shaka International Airport. This will be followed by a press briefing aimed at informing members of the media and the people of KwaZulu-Natal about preparations for the burial of mortal remains.

Mchunu has commended the South African government for moving swiftly to end the long and agonising wait for the mortal remains to be returned to the country and KZN in particular.

“We are praying to the almighty God to give the families, who are still waiting for the remains of their loved ones, more strength during this traumatic period. The Department of Social Development will continue to provide counselling to the affected families.”

“On behalf of the KZN Provincial Government and the people of KwaZulu-Natal we take this opportunity to pass our sincerest condolences to the families, relatives and all their next of kin. We call the people of KwaZulu-Natal to offer their support to the affected families.”
