KZN Premier convenes KwaZulu-Natal HIV and Aids Council meeting

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Aids Council has convened a meeting of the Council to review and discuss programmes aimed at turning the tide against the HIV and Aids pandemic.

This is the first meeting since the UNAIDS Executive Director, Mr Michel Sidibé and the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa His Excellency Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, National Minister of Health Dr Aaron Mostoaledi released the South Africa 2012 HIV Estimates and Projections at-a-glance Report in January this year. The report showed that new HIV infections have been reduced by about a third from 2004 and 2012.

“Although KwaZulu-Natal has been hailed internationally for turning the tide against this pandemic, we do not want to rest on our laurels. We are continuing with our efforts aimed at mobilising the people of KZN to be at the forefront of all efforts aimed fighting HIV and AIDS pandemic.”
