Africa Day will be marked on the 23rd of May 2015 at People’s Park in Durban. The celebrations include an ambassadors’ breakfast, a street parade, African food tasting, performances and a keynote address by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu. Provincial Cabinet will also be in attendance.
The KZN Arts and Culture Department has been hosting numerous events across the province in a build up to the event. We have used Africa Month to strengthen social cohesion programmes through community conversations, Africa Fridays and sport.
This year’s theme is “We Are Africa: Opening the doors of learning and culture from Cape to Cairo”. Africa Day is celebrated annually on the 25th of May, which is when the African Union was founded.
The event is organised by provincial government in partnership with eThekwini Municipality.
