Premier Kiviet hands out Christmas gifts to less privilaged

Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet will hand over gift vouchers to 100 less privileged families in the OR Tambo District. The Christmas gifts have been an ongoing programme of the Premier since 2009 and its purpose is to ensure that the less privileged families feel part of the Christmas festivities and enjoy the season like the rest of society. "I urge all our people to share with the less fortunate during this time. December is a time for giving and sharing gifts so it is important that we don't leave the less privileged and the poor out in the cold," said Premier Kiviet.

The number of beneficiaries per District is 100 and each family will receive a gift voucher of R500. On top of that each family will receive on site a food parcel with lots of valuable goodies which have been sponsored by SASSA. The Office of the Premier is organising these Christmas programmes in partnership with municipalities, Department of Social Development and SASSA offices in the Districts. Beneficiaries in Alfred Nzo and Cacadu District have already received their gift vouchers and food parcels. The identification of the beneficiaries has been done with the assistance of social workers from the Department of Social Development.
