Premier Job Mokgoro leads roll out of screening, testing and distribution of protective equipment in North West, 7 Apr  

NW focuses on Rustenburg as efforts to contain COVID-19 spread continue  

Efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the North West Province will this week be intensified as the provincial government, led by Premier Prof Tebogo Job Mokgoro, will tomorrow Tuesday, 7 April 2020, be in Bojanala Platinum District for a whole week mass screening, testing and contact tracing programme in Rustenburg, and initial distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the Rustenburg taxi rank.

As part of this co-ordinated programme, the province will also finalise the process of confirming facilities which will be used as quarantine sites for COVID-19 patients and shelters for the homeless in the Bojanala Platinum District.

The mass screening, testing and tracing programme will be rolled out in Tlhabane and Geelhout Park in Rustenburg from tomorrow until Thursday, and move to Brits in Madibeng Local Municipality from Friday until Sunday.

The distribution of masks, gloves, sanitizers and soaps which will be launched in Rustenburg taxi rank, will from tomorrow take place at various taxi and bus ranks for use by commuters and drivers across the province. 

Rustenburg taxi rank is the biggest in the North West Province, and the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in the province is as confirmed by the Minister of Health, in Rustenburg.

Premier Mokgoro who will be leading the Provincial Command Council has reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring that measures put in place such as maintaining social distance, will be adhered to during these programmes which will also be rolled out to other Districts in the coming weeks.
