Premier Helen Zille to receive the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into policing in Khayelitsha

On Monday 25 August 2014, Premier Helen Zille and Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato will receive the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into Policing in Khayelitsha.

The commission was established by the Premier in August 2012 based on allegations of police inefficiency in Khayelitsha and of a breakdown in relations between the community and the police in the area. It was established in terms of sections 206 of the Constitution, read with the Western Cape Constitution and our own Provincial Commissions Act of 1998.

The Commission – led by Justice Catherine O' Regan and Advocate Vusumzi Patrick Pikoli – has finalised its work and compiled a report for the Premier’s consideration.

The report will be officially handed over to Premier Zille at a ceremony in Khayelitsha.

All media are invited to attend.

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.
