Premier David Makhura launches Expanded Public Works Programme Phase three, 11 Dec

Premier’s SoPA promises set to give hope to 500 000 job seekers

Gauteng Premier Mr David Makhura will deliver on SoPA promises through the Launch of Expanded Public Works Programme Phase 3 and Tshepo 500 000 on Thursday, 11 December 2014.

“The Gauteng Provincial Government is launching a massive programme that will give hope and entrepreneurship skills to 500 000 young, women and people with disabilities over the next five years – Tshepo, 500 000, which means HOPE. Through this programme, we shall draw unemployed graduates and unemployable youth, women and people with disabilities into massive skills development and entrepreneurship training programmes that are linked to township renewal and revitalisation”, said Premier Makhura.

The Premier, will be accompanied by Minister for Public Works, Mr Thulas Nxesi, MEC for Infrastructure Development, Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza and MEC for Economic Development, Mr Lebogang Maile.

According to the MEC for Infrastructure Development, Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza, “Tshepo 500 000 will centre around four pillars including the transition and placement of new graduates, the provision of skills development and training to address  skills deficiencies as a barrier to employment, promote direct employment by  matching existing vacancies  with job seekers and finally on entrepreneurship development and training involving the identification and skilling of entrepreneurs”.

Venue 4: 10h30 to 13h00 – Premier and entourage conduct tour of Skills Village followed by  the formal launch at Kopanong Sports Centre, 15259 Riverside Road, Ivory Park.
