Premier David Makhura and MEC Ismail Vadi officially launch William Nicol Drive Phase 1 project, 25 Aug

Gauteng Premier David Makhura together with MEC for Roads and Transport Dr Ismail Vadi will on Tuesday, 25 August 2015, officially launch the William Nicol Drive Phase 1 project.

The R300 million project, which forms part of the Public Private Partnership with Steyn City Development, included the upgrading of K46 William Nicol Drive into a dual carriageway road.

The project scope also included the demolishing of the existing Jukskei River Bridge and construction of two new bridges crossing the Jukskei River. A new interchange in the vicinity of Erling Street intersection to provide access to the Telesure and Steyn City Developments in the west and Century City developments towards the east of road K46 was constructed.

The road will connect Bryanston, Sandton, Hyde Park, Rosebank and Johannesburg via Jan Smuts Avenue. It will also improve access to the Diepsloot area and Fourways towards Randburg.

During construction, black economic enterprise contractors were provided with substantial portion of the work whilst local and other labourers were trained on how to execute the work with a high degree for safety.
