Premier Chupu Mathabatha launches Limpopo 16 Days of Activism campaign, 25 Nov

The Premier of Limpopo Chupu Stanley Mathabatha will officially launch the provincial 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign in Modimolle. The launch marks the 14th anniversary of the campaign themed Count me in: Together moving a Non-violent South Africa forward”.

The 16 days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children is a United Nations undertaking that is recognised worldwide form the 25th November to 10 December. The campaign is aimed at creating awareness about the scourge of violence against women and children. Moreover, people are urged to wear a white ribbon as a symbol of peace and commitment of the wearer to never commit violence against women and children.

The campaign seeks to achieve the following:

  • To encourage community involvement in initiatives to combat crimes against women and children
  • To communicate government’s substantive programmes and priority actions to deal with the challenges of women and child abuse
  • To create awareness about gender based violence and child directed abuse at grassroots level
  • To bring the 16 days of activism campaign closer to the people, in order for members of society and ensure that communities are educated about the scourge of violence against women and children and its link with substance abuse and the impact gender based violence has on the infection rate of HIV and AIDS
  • To break the silence about domestic violence; and
  • Involve men and boys as partners in the campaign for no violence against women and children
