Portfolio Committee Members attend Legal Clinic in Mamelodi

On 31 July 2013, 15 Members of the Portfolio Committee Members on Women, Children, Youth and People with Disabilities led by the Chairperson Honourable Mrs Dorothy Ramodibe will attend Legal Clinic in Mamelodi. The Legal Clinic would be conducted by the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) at the Stanza Bopape Community Centre in Mamelodi.

“As part of our mandate, the Legal Department will conduct Legal Clinics to raise awareness on how to submit complaints on gender related matters, including gender- based violence, sexual harassment, domestic violence, gender discrimination, divorce, custody & access, gender related labour issues, estate, unlawful eviction, claim restitution, tradition & culture and other gender equality related issues.

The aim of this service is to reach those community members who are vulnerable to violence. The Mamelodi Legal clinic is geared towards achieving that objective”, Said the Commission for Gender Equality Chairperson, Mr Mfanozelwe Shozi.

The Legal Clinic would give the Portfolio Committee Members an opportunity to experience the mundane processes that the CGE engages in for the purpose of assisting members of communities with their complaints. Portfolio Committee Members will also observe how services rendered to the civil society organisations, including local communities.

The Legal Clinic in Mamelodi will start from 10h00 to 13h00, Venue Stanza Bopape Community Centre.
