Portfolio Committee assesses transformation and academic progress at Universities and FETs

Members of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will this week conduct oversight visits to Limpopo and Mpumalanga’s universities and Further Education and Training institutions.

The visits, which get underway on Monday, 22 July and end on Friday, 26 July, are aimed at assessing, among other things, student enrolment and challenges faced by the institutions, allocation of the NSFAS bursary/loans to students, transformation plans and admission policies at the identified universities and FETs.

Some of the institutions to be visited include the University of Venda, University of Limpopo – Turfloop Campus, all FETs in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. The National Institute for Higher Education (NIHE) in Mpumalanga will also be visited. The Committee went on oversight visits to Northern Cape and North West institutions of higher learning earlier this year.

Members will meet with various stakeholders at the institutions, including the Management and Student Representative Council (SRC).
