Police Stations ability to fight crime under spotlight

The Portfolio Committee on Police will this coming Monday and Tuesday scrutinise the ability of Police Stations in Gauteng to fight crime. The Portfolio Committee will also visit the Central Firearms Registry (CFR) of SAPS in Pretoria on Tuesday morning.

One of the stations that the Committee will visit is the Sunnyside Police Station. There will be unannounced visits to other stations in Pretoria.

The Portfolio Committee will, during the visit to the CFR, seek to establish the effectiveness of strategies aimed at addressing corruption allegations and management challenges at the CFR. The SAPS management appeared before the Committee last month to brief the MPs on their plans to address corruption allegations. The Committee will therefore use the visit to assess progress made so far in terms of combating “corruption” and management challenges.
