Police committee to hold critical meeting

The Portfolio Committee on Police will this Wednesday, 3 September 2014 hold critical engagements with different sections within SAPS in an effort to improve policing in the country.

The first item to be discussed during the meeting is the state of public order policing in the country. This is important because of the prevalence of violent protests in the country. The other important aspect to be interrogated is a detailed action plan that the Committee requested from SAPS Central Firearms Registry in August in order to ensure an effective firearms control system is in place.

In a first for the Committee, the Inspecting Judge of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) will brief the Committee. The Committee views these engagements as important in ensuring a safer South Africa.

Details of the meeting:
Date: 3 September 2014
Venue: Committee Room S26, First Floor, NCOP Building
