Petitions Committee to meet Petitioners over tractors that were not provided by the Department of Agriculture

On Tuesday, 20 August 2013, the North West Provincial Legislature Standing Committee on Petitions will hold a meeting with the petitioners at Madibeng Local Municipality, Municipal Manager's boardroom in Brits at 09h00.

The Committee will be meeting Dirang Lotlhe petitioners who sent a petition about the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development over a promise to provide tractors that will assist them with projects but the tractors were never received. The department will also be present in the meeting.

The North West Petitions Act 2, 2010 provides for the right to petition by any member of the public on matters that fall under the jurisdiction of the province’s municipalities. It may also address any matter within the jurisdiction of the provincial legislature and the executive council in the province constitutionally.

The Act assists in supporting the committee with legislation that will help it to resolve petitions submitted by the public. The objective of the petitions act is to promote public participation by giving a fair hearing to petitioners.
