Performance of prioritised municipalities comes under scrutiny

North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Manketsi Tlhape is to assess the impact that has been made through the implementation of the Local Government Turn Around Strategy (LGTAS) in 11 prioritised municipalities in the North West.

MEC Tlhape will as from next week, 2 to 6 December 2013, conduct one-on-one working sessions with these municipalities in order to assess service delivery progress, outcome and impact of government interventions. These municipalities are: Naledi, Kagisano-Molopo, Mamusa, Lekwa Teemane, Tswaing, Ratlou, Ramotshere Moiloa, Kgetleng rivier, Ventersdorp, Mahikeng and Moretele local municipalities.

The LGTAS was adopted by Cabinet in 2009 with the sole purpose of counteracting the forces that undermined the local government system. An assessment of all municipalities was done preceding the LGTAS in order to establish the root causes for poor performance, distress or dysfunctionality in municipalities.
