Parliament's Presiding Officers to meet South African National Editors' Forum and senior media

Parliament’s Presiding Officers, National Assembly (NA) Speaker, Baleka Mbete; National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson, Thandi Modise; NA Deputy Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli; and NCOP Deputy Chairperson, Raseriti Tau, will meet the South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) and senior journalists tomorrow.

Parliament appreciates the important role of the media in deepening our democracy. Its coverage of information, news and perspectives about Parliament helps the public to take an interest in and to make their voices heard on the work of Parliament.

This engagement with the Sanef and senior journalists is part of the fifth democratic Parliament’s intention to champion a dialogue between Parliament and the people.

It continues the work of our democratic Parliaments since 1994 and, in particular, the Public Participation Model drawn up during the fourth democratic Parliament.

Parliament’s intention is to hold regular interactions similar to this with other components of the media and with the public as a whole.

Besides Parliament’s Presiding Officers, the following office bearers and officials will be present at the meeting:

  • NA and NCOP House Chairpersons;
  • Chairpersons of Committees responsible for internal arrangements; and
  • The Acting Secretary to Parliament, the Acting Deputy Secretary to Parliament and the Secretary to the NA.
