Gauteng Human Settlements funds under spotlight

The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will tomorrow, 17 March scrutinise whether the Gauteng’s Human Settlements Department and its three metropolitan municipalities have been able to optimise all the human settlements funding at their disposal. The Gauteng delegation will be led by its Human Settlements MEC, Mr Jacob Mamabolo.

Committee Chairperson, Ms Nocawe Mafu, says it is important for the Committee to ensure that funding and grants allocated for the development of human settlements are utilised for their intended objective - which is to build houses, urbanise our communities and eradicate informal settlements, among other things.

Tomorrow’s meeting will zoom in on Gauteng’s performance and challenges in the delivery and expenditure of the Urban Settlements Development Grant (USDG), performance on the rectification programme, performance on social and rental housing programme as well as performance in the  delivery of other milestones on the Operational Expenditure Budget in Support of the Implementation of National and Provincial Housing Programmes.
