SCOPA conducts oversight visit to Department of Home Affairs in Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) will this week (21 to 23 July 2015) conduct oversight visits to the Department of Home Affairs in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
The Department of Home Affairs received a disclaimer of audit opinion in 2013/4 financial year which was a regression from the unqualified audit in the previous year. SCOPA held a hearing with the department on 4 March 2015 to engage on the findings of the Auditor-General.
During the engagement with the department it transpired that most transactions took place in regions rather than head office. Failure by provincial offices to put systems of controls in place results in the department receiving modified opinions.
