Parliament hosts Women’s Parliament 2013

Parliament will host the last Women’s Parliament of the fourth democratic Parliament under the theme, “A centenary of working together towards sustainable women empowerment and gender equality”.

This sectoral Parliament will provide the opportunity to look back at all the Women’s Parliaments that have taken place during the period of the fourth Parliament and will focus on discussing issues related to gender violence. It is an opportunity to reflect on the progress made towards women empowerment and also to pave the way forward to the next term (fifth Parliament).

Participants are women in leadership, from nine Provincial Legislatures, NGO’s, veterans and Chapter 9 Institutions. Internal stakeholders include members of the Multiparty Women’s Caucus and the Portfolio and Select Committees on Women, Children and People Living with Disabilities.

The discussions will be followed by a debate in the National Assembly Chamber whereby Members of Parliament will debate and deliberate on progress made on women issues during Parliament’s 4th term.
