Parliament conducts oversight visits to five provinces, 7 to 11 Sept

The Committees of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will this week from Monday (7 September) to Friday (11 September) visit five provinces in execution of Parliament’s constitutional mandate of holding government to account pertaining to delivery of services to the people.

These NCOP Committees will conduct joint oversight visits. Here are the names of Committees and purpose of their visits in the Free State, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga:

  • Select Committees on Education and Recreation, and Social Services will assess progress made in terms of the eradication of the bucket toilet system, provision of water and rationalisation of small non-viable schools in the Free State.
  • Select Committees on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Security and Justice, and Petitions will visit the Makana Local Municipality and Mthatha Maximum Prison in the Eastern Cape. They will also hold public hearings on service delivery petitions by residents of Mthatha.
  • The Select Committees on Appropriations and Finance will be in Limpopo to visit various projects to assess government’s spending of allocated funds on various infrastructure development projects in the province.
  • The Select Committees on Economic and Business Development, and Trade and International Relations will visit iSimangaliso Wetlands Park, UThungulu District Municipality, Richards Bay Port and the Port of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal to assess the challenges they face.
  • The Select Committees on Land and Mineral Resources, and Communications and Public Enterprises will be in Mpumalanga to visit the Kruger National Park to attend a workshop on rhino poaching
