This project is part of the 2013 Transport Month programme and the theme for this year is: Celebrating 20 years of delivering efficient, reliable and safe transport services.

The Setsoto Transport Facility was originally designed to accommodate the demand for an efficient transport facility at the Lesotho border. The project was constructed in three phases.

Phase 1: Construction of major earthworks and terraces, installation of main sewer reticulation and portion of security fence as well as temporary ticket offices.
This phase was completed in 2006.

Phase 2: Repair and shaping of earthwork levels, construction of rank canopies, application of paint markings and electrical installation. This phase was completed in June 2013.

In phase 2 the site lighting was installed, paving and kerbing was done, construction of ranking canopies, paint markings and electrical installation. The remaining 230m of the special security fence as well as the future water and sewer reticulation were also introduced.

Phase 3 will commence soon and will include the construction of a wash bay, installing of walkway canopies as well as the construction of main ticket offices.

Taxis from South Africa and Lesotho will benefit from this new state of the art Transport Centre. Long gone will be days of passengers waiting in the searing sun and of taxi’s traveling on gravel or mud taxi roads in the taxi rank.
