Official opening of Pelonomi Hospital “Hola Monna” Male Circumcision Centre

The Free State Department of Health in partnership with Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU) will officially open Pelonomi Hospital “Hola Monna” Male Circumcision Unit on 22 February 2013 at 10h00. The Unit has a capacity to circumcise 50 men each day and has already provided quick, safe and relatively painless circumcision to over 1 000 men. Male Circumcision is a minor simple and safe procedure conducted by the professional doctors and nurses in a sterile condition.

Pelonomi “Hola Monna” (which means "grow up men" in Sesotho) Male Circumcision Unit is part of the programme targeting any man between the ages of 15 - 35 who volunteer and is initiated by the South African Government in the fight against HIV/AIDS. A discomfort lasts for few hours but most men are able to return to work the next day.

Dr Limakatso Lebina has indicated that as a precaution, they ask” men not to have sex for six weeks after the procedure mainly to ensure that the wound is completely healed”. The Acting MEC for Health, Mr Mosebenzi Zwane cordially invites you to the Launch Pelonomi “Hola Monna” Medical Male Circumcision (MMC) Centre.

Pelonomi ‘Hola Monna’ Male Circumcision centre is one of the two excellent MMC centres to be established in Mangaung Metro by the Free State Department of Health with the partnership of Perinatal HIV Research Unit, with funding from the Centre for Disease Control through Society for Family Health (SFH-New Start).
