Official opening of the N1 Ventersburg road

The R65 million road project at Ventersburg will be officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, and the MEC for Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State Province, Butana Komphela at 9h00 at the Ventersburg Truck stop on 15 April 2014.

Daily about 6 000 vehicles - including 1 200 trucks - pass Ventersburg on the N1. Because the town is literally split in two by the N1, more than 4 300 pedestrians - many of them school children - cross the busy road every day, risking life and limb to get to the opposite side.

With the major upgrades and changes to the construction of the road as well as the introduction of two new bridges, it is expected that the road will drastically improve the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike.

The MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Hon. Butana Komphela will at the same event launch the Easter Road Safety Campaign. High traffic volumes are expected on the Free State roads during the Easter weekend as well as other long weekends later in April and early May 2014.
