Official hand-over of Celukphiwa Primary by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Education MEC Senzo Mchunu

The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Senzo Mchunu, will be the Keynote Speaker during the handover of infrastructure facilities at Celukphiwa Combined School in the Othukela District.

The Celukphiwa project, which cost the KZN Department of Education a total of R25 million, includes the construction of 3 new ECD classrooms, 7 other new additional classrooms and renovation of the entire school.

When delivering his budget speech on 6 June 2013, MEC Senzo Mchunu said, "The provision of additional classrooms continues to be rolled-out by the department in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and other implementing agents. The projection is that by 2014 all schools in the province will have access to adequate classrooms. The department plans to provide 1 350 additional classrooms in 2013/14 financial year."

The overall budget allocation for infrastructure in the 2013/14 financial year is R2 591 billion. This allocation is for the construction of fourteen (14) new schools (396 322 million), upgrades and additions (R1 068 billion), rehabilitation and repairs (R435 764 million), maintenance and storm damages.

Overall there are 2 478 building projects over and above the new schools to be constructed in this financial year. Most of these projects are addressing the inequalities of the past and are largely in rural areas.

Hayfields Primary School in the Umgungundlovu District in PMB, which is a brand new school being built by the Department is ready for parents to register their children now for the Grades R to 7 for 2014.
