NYDA, ICP and VOSESA to partner on Youth Service for job creation

National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Executive Chairperson Yershen Pillay will address a Learning Forum on the role of the National Youth Service (NYS) in fostering employability, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods among youth in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Forum is co-sponsored by the NYDA and will take place from 25 to 26 November 2013. It will be co-hosted by two leading organisations in the service field: Innovations in Civic Participation (ICP), which is based in the United States, and Volunteer and Service Enquiry Southern Africa (VOSESA) in South Africa.

The forum presents a unique opportunity for government practitioners to share good practices in implementing the National Youth Service programmes that support young people to access economic opportunities. Practitioners will engage with representatives from a range of African countries, as well as countries outside of Africa, in which National Youth Service programmes are running.

Young people continue to constitute the majority of the unemployed. The NYDA has also adopted the National Youth Service as part of its Key Performance Areas to help youth acquire occupational skills necessary to access sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Media is invited to forum as follows:
Date: Monday, 25 November 2013
