North West Legislature to host Women's Parliament 2013

Members of the media are invited to the North West Provincial Legislature, Women’s Parliament, under the theme, “Improving socio-economic conditions of women in the North West province”.

The event will be addressed by the Honourable Deputy Speaker Phillemon Mapulane.

The event will be attended by political parties represented in the North West legislature, women in agriculture and rural development, women in mining, and the renowned non-governmental organisation throughout the province, including members of the public.

Since the implementation of women empowerment as a policy in the Republic of South Africa, the majority of women have benefited from this policy. In 2005, South Africa had its first female Deputy President.

By 2008, South Africa had achieved 43 percentage women representation in Cabinet and about 33 percentage representation in Provincial Legislatures. This achievement puts South Africa amongst the leading countries in the world with women in leadership positions.
