On Thursday, 06 August 2015, the North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Provincial Local Government and Human Settlements will be conducting public hearings on Disaster Management Amendment Bill in Kraaipan tribal hall; Matlosana Auditorium Hall in Klerksdorp; Batlhaping ba ga Phuduhucwana tribal hall in Taung and Moretele hall in Moretele at 10h00.
The Disaster Management Bill seek to amend the Disaster Management Act, 2002, so as to substitute and insert certain definitions; to clarify policy focus on rehabilitation and functioning of disaster management centres; to align the functions of the National Disaster Management Advisory Forum to accommodate the South African National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction; to provide for South National Defence Force, South African Police Service and any other organ of state to assist the disaster management structures.
