North West Legislature to conduct public hearings on Traditional Courts Bill and North West Tender Board Repeal Bill 2012

The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee Local Government and Traditional Affairs and Portfolio Committee on Provincial Affairs and Finance will be conducting public hearings on the Traditional Courts Bill and the North West Tender Board Repeal Bill on the 21 November 2013 at Lehurutshe Civic Hall; Lebaleng Community Hall in Maquassi Hills; Moretele Municipality Hall and Tlou le Tlou Tribal Hall in Ganyesa. All hearings start at 10h00.

The Traditional Courts Bill seeks to affirm the values of the traditional justice system based on restorative justice and reconciliation and to align them with the constitution; provide for the structure and functioning of traditional courts in line with constitutional imperatives and values; enhance customary law and the customs of communities observing a system of customary law and province and provide for the matters connected therewith.

The North West Tender Board Repeal Bill 2012 aims to provide for the repeal of the North West Tender Act 1994; provide for the disestablishment of the North West Tender Board and the winding up of the affairs of the North West Tender Board; provide for the transfer of assets, powers, functions, rights, duties and obligations of the North West Tender Board.
