North West Female Entrepreneurs to be recognised and honoured

The annual DAFF Female Entrepreneur Awards which are about recognising women’s immense contribution in fighting food security agenda, self sacrifice and the realisation of agricultural golden opportunities that are within the sector are back within our shores this year.

The awards which coincide with the celebration of women’s month across the country are a tool that encourages women especially those from rural areas to stand up and be counted especially within the agricultural sector.

MEC for the Department of Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development Manketsi Tlhape will recognise the provincial female farmers’ distinctive involvement in improving the lives of their communities and the provincial economy, through agricultural production in an awards ceremony to be held on the Friday, 15 August.

MEC Tlhape expresses that through these awards which are on their 14th year of successfully running, are meant to assist women to roll up their sleeves in helping the government to half poverty by the year 2030.

“It is also envisaged that women from across the province will capitalise on the opportunities the department continues to avail with their programmes that includes the renowned Nguni Project, Mechanisation, One family-One food Garden Project and many more others,” explained MEC Tlhape.

In total 17 projects will be on the centre stage during the awarding ceremony under the following categories:

A. Best Subsistence Producer: caters for beginners in the sector.
B. Best Smallholder Entrepreneur: competitors must sell to local markets.
C. Best Processing Entrepreneur: competitors must be involved in processing activities and selling their produce locally, nationally and or internationally.
D. Best Commercial Entrepreneur: competitors must sell to local & national markets
E. Best Export Entrepreneur: this category recognises outstanding service in the sectors
F. Special Award: the MEC recognises the outstanding performance of a young person and or person with disability in the sector.

In addition the North West province will host the DAFF Female Entrepreneur Awards National Competition on the 22nd of August 2014 at Mmabatho Convention Centre which will see our provincial winners pitted against other female entrepreneurs from other provinces.
