The Nation celebrates the inaugural Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day

The Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with the Department of Sports and Recreation South Africa invites members of the media to the inaugural Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day. This cultural and sporting extravaganza will take place on Saturday, 17 August 2013 at FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

For the first time ever, the world will witness an exhilarating music concert as well as international friendlies featuring South Africa's national soccer and rugby teams in one arena.

Through this unique event the two departments are using the combined power of sport and arts to carry forward Madiba’s legacy of building a true rainbow nation, at peace with itself and the world.

This music concert will feature a number of top local and international artists. The line-up includes, Toya Delazy, Mafikizolo, David Jerkins, Salif Keita, Wouter Kellerman, Zahara, Elvis Blue, Kurt Darren, DJ Black Coffee and DJ Alessandro, to name a few.

Like sport, arts, culture and heritage have an important role to play in promoting reconciliation, nation building and social cohesion.

All proceeds from the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day will go towards building the Nelson Mandela children's hospital. Let’s pledge our support!
