Multi-Sectoral Summit to discuss ways to effectively curb illicit trade in cigarettes in Limpopo at the Ranch Hotel Polokwane

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, the Directorate Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) Limpopo, the Tobacco Institute of Southern Africa (TISA) and the University of Limpopo will be hosting a multi-sectoral summit that will discuss ways to effectively curb illicit trade in cigarettes in the province.

It is common knowledge that Limpopo is used as a hub and a transit route by cigarette smugglers coming through the Beit Bridge from Zimbabwe. The Limpopo challenge will also be positioned against a national backdrop as illicit trade in cigarettes accounts for about 30% of the total SA cigarette market to date.

The media is cordially invited to a press briefing which will be attended by the Premier of Limpopo, the Hounarable Stanley Mathabatha, the MEC for Safety, Security and Liaison, the Honourable Rejoice Mashamba, SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General F Masemola, Provincial DPCI Head Major General Dibero Molatjana, Mr Francois van der Merwe from Tisa and Dr Kholofelo Mothibi from the University of Limpopo.
