Port Shepstone gets a new state of the art magistrates court
Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Sihle Zikalala, together with Justice and Constitutional Development Minister, Ronald Lamola, will, on Thursday 22 February 2024, handover and open the new multi-million rand state of the art Port Shepstone Magistrate Court at the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.
The Court was built by the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure as part of its core mandate to build and allocate strategic infrastructure for client Departments in order to provide essential services to the public.
The construction of the court faced many problems including poor performance by the initial contractor, Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, inclement weather and disruptions and intimidation from Business Forums.
The new high security court complex boasts 16 courts that are made up of: the local magistrate’s court, regional court and high court. There are also specialised courts such as the sexual offences court, child maintenance court, family court and equality court. There also is an admin section, prisoner’s quarters and parking for both the public and staff.
