Minister to turn the sod for construction of multimillion rand training centre in Pretoria

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti is to conduct a sod turn ceremony at the site of a new R60 million Multi-purpose Training and Development Centre to be built through a partnership, between the Department and the Agricultural Research Council on 13 May 2014 at ARC VOPI, Roodeplaat, Pretoria. This event will also coincide with the handing over of certificates to 2000 graduates in vegetable and livestock production at the Roodeplaat training facility.

The purpose of the new Centre is to ensure the facilitation of training in a well-equipped facility with all the necessary experts in the various fields in close proximity, in order to be available and involved in the programme. It will also provide exposure to the scientific environment from which the latest scientific information and new knowledge is created.

This will ensure long-term sustainability of the programme and form the foundation of the establishment of a sustainable support system for the Agricultural Para-professional Development Programme (APPDP) in the long-term.

Minister Nkwinti will hand over the certificates to the graduates together with the CEO of the Agricultural Research Council. These students undertook training at the Roodeplaat training centre.
