Public Works and Infrastructure Minister, Sihle Zikalala, will tomorrow commence the 20 years of EPWP, one of South Africa’s success stories of mass Public Employment Programmes.
Minister Zikalala will visit enterprises created through EPWP and interact with many beneficiaries.
The EPWP provides short-term job opportunities for the unemployed - to unskilled people in particular. In addition, the EPWP provide training for participants as part of the exit strategy leading to participants owning enterprises in areas of waste management, road maintenance and general construction.
In the 6th administration the program is targeting to create 5million work opportunities. It is by far one of the largest poverty alleviation programme.
