Minister Senzo Mchunu launches Water and Sanitation Services Policy on Privately Owned Land, 1 Mar

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr Senzo Mchunu, will launch a landmark policy aimed at improving access to water and sanitation services on privately owned land, in uMshwathi Local Municipality on Friday, 01 March 2024

The Water and Sanitation Services Policy on Privately Owned Land was approved by Cabinet in November 2023, and gazetted (Gazette Notice: 50113) in February this year, establishes a clear framework for enhancing water service provision in areas where traditional municipal infrastructure has not been reached.

The launch will provide residents, key stakeholders and duty-bearers, with a comprehensive understanding of the policy's key features and benefits, which includes amongst others, improved access to reliable and safe water sources; enhanced service delivery; and increased transparency and accountability.

The policy implementation will be achieved through collaborative efforts by all spheres of government as well as the sector’s stakeholders such as the Association for Rural Advancement (AFRA) and others.
