Members of the media are invited to join the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies on his visit to the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) as part of the Department of Trade and Industry’s “Taking the dti to the Factories” campaign:

The activities of the day will include:
- The factory visit and engagements with Tata Steel KZN, a ferrochrome plant located in Phase 1F of the RBIDZ,
- The energising and switching on of street lights in Phase 1A of the RBIDZ marking commencement of commercialisation of the site,
- The signing of lease and recognition agreements with two new investors;
- The sod turning for new investors marking the commencement of construction works for investor projects,
- Engagements and discussions with business community and captains of industry in the Richards Bay area.
The “Taking the dti to the Factories” campaign is an initiative of the dti which aims to determine the outcomes and impact of some of the measures government has put in place with regards to the promotion of manufacturing in South Africa.
The Tata Steel factory employs 170 permanent people and produces more than 150 000 tons of ferrochrome that is exported overseas. The Phase 1A of the RBIDZ has been declared ready for business with all the necessary bulk infrastructure implementations.
