Minister of Police, Nathi Mthetwa to meet taxi associations in Delft to resolve taxi violence

The Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa together with representations from the Department of Transport will this afternoon facilitate a meeting aimed at ending a dispute between two taxi associations in Delft, Western Cape following taxi violence around routes in the area. These tensions have been going on for approximately five months.

A number of people have been killed over a period since the dispute started.  There are two taxi associations in the main, namely Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and Convention for Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA).

Due to experience of violence in this industry in the past, a coordinating structure was set up by the two associations in an effort to prevent violence in the future in the industry.The meeting with the associations starts at 13h00 and is a closed meeting.
