Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa to attend Khayelitsha Prayer meeting

The Ministry of Police encourages members of society, business formations, civic organisations, including interfaith organisations to work with government in the fight against crime. Interfaith organisations in particular, have a fundamental role to play in the moral regeneration of society, teaching of moral values not only within their places of worship but across society.

Reverend TM Mbekwa and Bishop DD Mtsolo both from Khayelitsha separately approached the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa with an idea of hosting a prayer meeting, to pray for, amongst others: end police killings, gang violence that afflicts children and youth, abuse of women, children and the elderly as well as an end of crime in general.

It is against this background that Minister Mthethwa has accepted this invitation. We welcome such initiatives as they are within the context of our ongoing community-participation programmes aimed at strengthening police-community relations, in the fight against crime.

The Minister will be joined by the Western Cape South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lamoer, his provincial management team, various SAPS Cluster Commanders and Station Commanders from the area. Details of the prayer meeting are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 21 November 2012
Time: 17h00
Venue: OR Tambo Hall, Khayelitsha
